Fire Chief Keith Grueneberg
Question: What is your expectation of how many minutes will pass from the time I call to report an emergency to the time a fire truck or ambulance arrives?
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: It depends if they use a cell phone or regular hard-line phone. A cell report may take as much as 10 to 15 minutes to process. The hard-line will normally be processed in less than a minute. 911 regulations require the operators to answer within two rings.
Question: Does the fire department have a response time goal?
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: Yes. We will arrive within 5 minutes 80% of the time.
Question: How close is it to your expectation?
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: About 10 to 15 %. Traffic is a main reason we are delayed.
Question: Has this goal been adopted by city leaders?
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: In our case no, but the city does not handle fire. The district board has adopted this goal in its master plan.
Question: What percentage of time does the department meet that goal now? 1/1/05 to 6/1/05
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: Urban is 69% Rural (12 minutes or less) 91% District average urban and rural is 71%
Question: Are there areas where response times are frequently longer?
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: Yes. The northern part of Franklin Blvd near the Sac city boundary, Big Horn area. Some areas south of Elk Grove Blvd on Grantline.
Question: If the nearest fire station to my home is in the next community, which fire department is dispatched first?
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: In Sacramento County we have boundary drops. The closest resource is dispatched and the home department notified.
Question: What level of service does the department provide for EMS?
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics are also on all fire apparatus.
Question: Are your physical resources adequate, including fire stations, training facilities, fire apparatus and personal protective gear to meet the level of risk in the community?
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: YES
Question: What is the community's ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating for fire protection?
Answer: Chief Grueneberg: We are a Class 3 in the urban areas and Class 8 in the rural areas.
