New Library Sculpture Lights Up Main Street

The Gist: A new public sculpture called Radiant Eddy has been installed outside the Elk Grove Library’s future location on Historic Main Street. The piece was created by artist Aaron T Stephan and honors Harriet Eddy, the educator and librarian credited with helping establish California’s county free library system and Elk Grove’s first library.

Why It Matters: The new library is still scheduled to open this fall, but the plaza is already starting to feel like a civic gathering place. At night, the sculpture glows like a beacon for the new space.

Pitch Elk Grove Names 17 Semi-Finalists

The Gist: Elk Grove’s Recycling & Waste team is expanding hands-on outreach for multi-family communities. Staff recently visited Vintage Creek Apartments to answer questions, share sorting tools, and deliver care packages with organics pails, fridge magnets, coloring books, and Special Waste Collection Center information.

Why It Matters: Recycling rules can get confusing fast, especially in apartment communities. Meeting residents where they live makes it easier for households to sort correctly without guessing.

Sushi, Drinks, And Group Dinner Energy

8973 Grant Line Road, Suite 100, Elk Grove, CA

Umai Bar & Grill is built for the kind of dinner where everyone wants something a little different, and somehow the table still works. The Grant Line spot serves lunch, dinner, drinks, happy hour, and party trays, with a modern bar-and-grill feel that works for family dinners, date nights, and friends who say they are “just getting one thing.”

The menu leans into sushi bar energy, drinks, and shareable dishes, with plenty of room for the group to order across the table. It is also open every day, which is always a small blessing when your dinner plans are more last-minute than elegant.

Easy, lively, and very Elk Grove.

A Local Headquarters For Game Night

8932 Elk Grove Blvd, Elk Grove, CA

Hobby Quest is a family-owned and operated shop for people who like their hobbies with a little table space and a lot of imagination. The Elk Grove Boulevard store carries board games, card games, wargames, accessories, and supplies for players who are just starting out or already deep into the hobby.

It is also the kind of place where the staff can help you open something new, answer questions, and point you toward the next game night idea. Between trading cards, tabletop games, and events like Kids Pokemon Day, it gives Elk Grove families and collectors a real local place to gather.

A good reminder that screen-free fun still has plenty of life.
