Time to get a little extra relaxation, enjoy some good food, and soak up these last unofficial days of summer. This month is all about celebrating the people, cultures, food, and traditions that make our community such an interesting place to live. Diversity Month is back, and the calendar is packed with ways to take part, from restaurant deals all week long to Global Feast Fest on September 12.
We also found some smaller local events worth knowing about, including live music, art, crafts, and a little post-run brewery time.

Plenty to choose from, as usual. Enjoy the long weekend, neighbors!

Ten days of local dining deals

The Gist: Explore Elk Grove's Diversity Dining Week runs September 4 through 13, with exclusive meals, discounts, and deals at dozens of locally owned restaurants. Signing up is free through a mobile pass, and participating spots range from BBQ and ramen to Mexican, Italian, and Filipino kitchens across the city.
Why It Matters: It is a low-cost way to support local restaurants and finally try a few places you have been meaning to get to, right through the long weekend and the week that follows. Grab the free pass online, then check in and redeem deals through September 13.
September is Diversity Month in Elk Grove
The Gist: September marks Diversity Month in Elk Grove, one of the most diverse cities in the country. Presented by Kaiser Permanente, the city's second annual celebration fills the month with cultural food, music, and dance, building toward Global Feast Fest at District56 on September 12.
Why It Matters: More than eighty languages are spoken across local schools, and the month is the city's way of turning that everyday diversity into a season of shared food and performances.

Award-winning, low-and-slow perfection

8517 Elk Grove Blvd, Elk Grove
If babysitting a grill all holiday weekend sounds like work, MacQue's BBQ is your out. Mack and Charlie Thomas have been smoking low-and-slow for nearly four decades.
They’ve earned legendary status for melt-in-your-mouth brisket, fall-off-the-bone ribs, and scratch-made cornbread. Grab a combo with sweet baked beans for effortless takeout. Bonus: use your Diversity Dining Week pass here through the 13th.

Gathering gold for your kitchen table

8529 Elk Grove Blvd, Elk Grove
For a shop that has been around since 1985, Nina’s Flowers & Gifts remains a true treasure. Owner Deanne Ireland runs things the personal way, crafting arrangements by hand from fresh garden roses, snapdragons, and vibrant hydrangeas.
With sunflower season in full swing, adding a couple of bold golden blooms turns any bouquet into something unforgettable. Order a day ahead for your long weekend gatherings or enjoy same-day hand delivery throughout Elk Grove.
Skip the Resort. Stay in a Centuries-Old Sicilian Village Instead.
Casa Gratteri offers beautifully restored homes in Gratteri, a hidden mountain town in Sicily with sweeping views, deep history, and zero crowds. Full concierge service, a private chef on request, and modern finishes throughout. This is the kind of trip people talk about for the rest of their lives.
