This Friday night is packed with great choices, whether you want to take the pups to District56 for a sunset stroll or listen to live music at Sheldon Inn. Grab a cold drink, take a look at the lineup, and start planning your weekend.

Elk Grove Charts Course to Carbon Neutrality with New Climate Plan

The Gist: The Elk Grove City Council unanimously approved the Climate Compass on June 10, a long-range plan targeting a 39% emissions cut by 2030 and 85% by 2045. The plan includes 113 total actions across the community and city operations, plus a full transition to a zero-emission municipal vehicle fleet over the next decade.
Why It Matters: Three years in the making, with input from more than 60 public meetings, this is Elk Grove residents' vision for their city's future taking official shape.
What's Next: Implementation is estimated at $53 million over five years, with fleet electrification projected at an additional $27.1 million over 12 years.
Long-Vacant Elk Grove Lot Finally Gets a Development Plan
The Gist: After sitting empty for over 20 years, a 1.86-acre pad at the Calvine Pointe Shopping Center is moving forward as a mixed-use self-storage and retail project. The council unanimously approved developer Paul Petrovich's plan for a three-story building with 123,000 square feet of storage plus 12,000 square feet of commercial and office space.
Why It Matters: A site that's been a vacant eyesore since before Elk Grove was even incorporated as a city is finally getting built out.
What's Next: City staff is also preparing potential zoning amendments later this year that could set new limits on self-storage projects citywide.

Wood-Fired Date Night Energy

8295 Laguna Blvd, Elk Grove, CA
Interlude Kitchen & Bar brings a polished modern American feel to Laguna Boulevard, with a menu built around farm-to-table cooking, French and Italian influences, and wood-fired dishes. It comes from the team behind Prelude Kitchen & Bar and Zinfandel Grille, and the room feels like the kind of place you choose when dinner should feel a little more intentional.
The menu has plenty to linger over, from wood grilled cauliflower with Meyer lemon and walnut romesco to grilled blackened prawns with mango salsa. For dinner, the Niman Ranch pork chop, Atlantic salmon with caper brown butter, and bucatini carbonara all make the table feel like a good decision.
It is refined, but not stiff. A nice sweet spot.

A Grant Line Garden Stop

10071 Grant Line Road, Elk Grove, CA
Big Oak Nursery is the kind of place that makes you start imagining projects before you even get back to the car. The nursery carries locally grown plants, including annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, vegetables, and fruit trees in sizes from 4-inch pots to 15-gallon plants.
It is open to the public seven days a week, with pickup at the nursery and delivery available in the greater Sacramento area for a nominal fee. You will also find garden resources on everything from fruit trees to dry shade plants, pool-friendly plant ideas, and pollinator guides.
A good stop if your backyard has been quietly asking for help.
Skip the Resort. Stay in a Centuries-Old Sicilian Village Instead.
Casa Gratteri offers beautifully restored homes in Gratteri, a hidden mountain town in Sicily with sweeping views, deep history, and zero crowds. Full concierge service, a private chef on request, and modern finishes throughout. This is the kind of trip people talk about for the rest of their lives.
