Summer is flying by, but the local event calendar is not slowing down one bit. This Friday is bringing a bizarre but brilliant mix of seasonal vibes, including a full Christmas in July celebration at District56 complete with summer ice skating. If you prefer a slower pace, the neighborhood wineries are stepping up with live music and local olive oil tastings all weekend.

We have gathered the absolute best local pop ups, markets, and gatherings below so you can plan the perfect weekend layout.

Roads Reopen After Harvest Water Work

The Gist: Roadway work tied to the Sacramento Area Sewer District’s Harvest Water project is now complete, and impacted roads in Elk Grove and southern Sacramento County have reopened after restoration work. Crews installed more than 43 miles of recycled water pipeline over the past two years, including a major segment along Franklin Boulevard.
Why It Matters: Anyone who drives through the area knows road work can wear on a routine. This also moves forward a major recycled water project that will support agriculture, habitat, and long-term water reliability.
Strauss Festival Returns With “Vienna Once More”
The Gist: The Strauss Festival returns to Elk Grove Park from July 23 to July 26 with this year’s theme, “Vienna Once More.” The free evening production features classical Strauss music, a 40-piece Camellia Symphony Orchestra, dancers ages 4 to 78, food vendors, fireworks, and a book drive benefiting Elk Grove Reads.
Why It Matters: This is one of Elk Grove’s signature summer traditions, and it still feels wonderfully local. Volunteers, families, music, costumes, and a park full of neighbors make it more than just a show.

Soup Dumplings Worth The Wait

7419 Laguna Blvd. Suite 180, Elk Grove, CA
Journey to the Dumpling is the kind of place where one dish can become the whole reason for the trip. The Elk Grove spot is built around scratch-made dumplings, especially pork soup dumplings, steamed to order with savory broth tucked inside.
The menu goes well beyond the signature xiao long bao. Garlic noodles, wontons in chili oil, beef roll, green onion pancakes, honey walnut shrimp, chow fun, and dumpling noodle soup all give the table plenty to work with. It is easy to over-order here, and honestly, that may be the correct move.
Come hungry. Bring someone who likes to share. Then order the soup dumplings anyway.

A Card Shop With Collector Energy

9320 Elk Grove Blvd, Suite 165, Elk Grove, CA
Sactown Sports Cards and Memorabilia is a local buy, sell, and trade shop for sports cards, Pokémon TCG, and memorabilia. It sits right on Elk Grove Boulevard, which makes it an easy stop for collectors who like the thrill of finding one good card in the case.
The shop works for both sides of the hobby. Serious collectors can hunt through inventory, while newer fans can stop in, ask questions, and get a feel for what people are chasing right now.
It is also another reminder that Elk Grove has more small specialty shops than you might notice when you are just driving through.
Skip the Typical Resort This Summer. Stay in a Centuries-Old Sicilian Village Instead.
Casa Gratteri offers beautifully restored homes in Gratteri, a hidden mountain town in Sicily with sweeping views, deep history, and zero crowds. Full concierge service, a private chef on request, and modern finishes throughout. This is the kind of trip people talk about for the rest of their lives.
