Sometimes the best kind of weekend plan is the one you do not actually have to overthink. This week is serving up some incredibly relaxed options around town, from vintage Volkswagen gatherings to quiet afternoon art shows at our local vineyards.

If your ideal Friday night involves patio seating, good conversation, and maybe a little local wine, you are definitely in luck. We have gathered everything you need to know about what is happening right in our own backyard over the next few days. Hopefully this helps you find a great excuse to get out and enjoy the neighborhood.

Elk Grove Affordable Housing Project Breaks Ground

The Gist: City officials, community members, and housing advocates gathered May 14 to celebrate the groundbreaking of Coral Blossom Apartments, an 81-unit affordable housing development planned for the west side of Elk Grove Florin Road, south of Calvine Road. The project is being developed by Excelerate Housing Group in partnership with Hope Cooperative.
Why It Matters: Housing is one of Elk Grove’s biggest long-term conversations, and this project is aimed at formerly unhoused and low-income households who need more stable options close to services and community support.
Casino And Tribe Raise $200K For Area Food Banks
The Gist: Sky River Casino and the Wilton Rancheria Tribe raised $200,000 to support area food banks, including Elk Grove Food Bank Services. The local food bank continues to serve about 9,000 people monthly, with demand especially high among seniors and low-income families.
Why It Matters: This is one of those quiet community stories that matters a lot. Food support is not abstract when thousands of neighbors are relying on it every month.

Dinner Under The Old Oak

9000 Grantline Road, Elk Grove, CA
Sheldon Inn Restaurant and Bar sits in a historic building more than 100 years old, tucked into the countryside side of Elk Grove. Chefs Doug and Barbara Silva founded Silva’s Sheldon Inn in 1988, and the place still feels built for the nights when you want dinner to feel like a real plan.
The menu moves between classic French, American, and Portuguese influences. Go for Dungeness crab cakes with cajun remoulade, Silva’s Portuguese bean soup, grilled swordfish with soy ginger glaze, or the stuffed chicken breast with apricots, cherries, and port wine cream sauce.
There is also Sunday brunch, if your ideal weekend includes French toast and fried chicken, a crab cake benedict, and no reason to hurry.

Main Street Shopping With A Purpose

9086 Elk Grove Blvd, Elk Grove, CA
TrendE Boutique is a women’s boutique on Main Street with clothing, shoes, accessories, and gifts that feel made for a slow browse. It is the kind of local shop where you can stop in for one thing and leave with a small reminder that Elk Grove still has plenty of storefront charm.
The extra sweet part is the mission behind the register. Through its Purchase with Purpose program, TrendE donates $1 from every purchase to local nonprofits and charities.
This week, they are also hosting a Summer Solstice Workshop with a custom tote, scarf, charm bar, sips, snacks, shopping, and a little sidewalk-style summer energy.
Skip the Resort. Stay in a Centuries-Old Sicilian Village Instead.
Casa Gratteri offers beautifully restored homes in Gratteri, a hidden mountain town in Sicily with sweeping views, deep history, and zero crowds. Full concierge service, a private chef on request, and modern finishes throughout. This is the kind of trip people talk about for the rest of their lives.
